Know Your Customer
Know Your Customer(s) - It is imperative in this highly evolving and rapidly growing e-commerce generation that you know who your customers are and if your products or services are a high risk to your company. Constantly monitor your customers to see what they are doing; what they are buying, time they are buying. Send your customers e-mails, see who replies. Once you have spent sometime evaluating your customers you can then look for anomalies or out of the ordinary buying patterns.
Encryption
Ensure that all your data that you store is encrypted and protected. Hackers or Fraudsters are very interested in the information you gather from your clients, so it is your responsibility to make sure that the trust your users put in you is reciprocated.
Secure
Is your site secure? Provide secure tags for your clients so that they know when they are using your company or online service that they are using a secure website.
Warnings
Provide the users or clients of your business with warnings on your website that are within view for either members or non-members. Provide information on how you handle Fraud and what you will do if you detect it.
Authentication Seals
Become a member of websites that are trusted within the e-commerce community that are posted on your main web-page for either members or non-members to see. These seals and the affiliated companies will help you prevent fraud, and help to deter fraud from happening to you. Some good examples of this are seen on the bottom of the UseMyBank main web-page.
Be Wary
Be suspicious of buyers who are not concerned with costs, con artists often want the items shipped immediately and do not mind spending extra money for overnight delivery.
Conduct More Checks on Buyers of High Value Items
Certain types of merchandise that can be easily resold for large amounts are especially attractive to con artists. This includes electronics, computers and computer equipment, cameras, home entertainment products such as DVDs and DVD players, sports equipment, jewellery, and other similar items.
Beware of Improper Shipping Addresses
Use caution when shipping to other countries, as these transactions carry a higher risk of fraud. If the buyer's address is provided in the transaction details, ship only to that address. Do not ship packages to a country other than where the buyer's account is.
